The importance of conscious communication in a complicated world

Hello friend,

It’s been a while since I popped in here. So…um…hi.

I’ve been intentionally keeping a little quiet as I, like you, have watched in bewilderment as the events of this unprecedented time in history have continued to unfold.

I’ve continuously asked myself “What is my role in all of this? How have I contributed to getting us here? How will I contribute to getting us out of here?”

I fundamentally believe that so many (not all, but a real, real lot) of the problems in the world can be solved through compassionate, thoughtful and intentional communication. This ‘us versus them’ business that we’re being inundated with right now is only true if we allow it to be true.

We get to choose – every day all day, how we interact with each of the people around us. We get to decide what kinds of conversations and relationships and results we want to have and then take active steps to build and produce them.

Healthy communication can take an endless array of forms.

It can mean trusting that you don’t have to have all the answers or be right all the time. That it’s ok to say ‘I don’t know.’

It can mean having the courage to hear an opposing viewpoint in the spirit of learning why that person feels that way, in order to find common ground and compromise.

It can mean standing up for what you believe in with clarity and conviction while understanding why others might stand up for the opposite with the same clarity and conviction.

It can mean knowing when to stay and fight and knowing when to walk away.

It can mean being able to speak up, as well as being able to sit silently and listen.

It can mean allowing yourself to shine bright without letting others diminish your light.

It can mean trusting that the sound of your voice is perfect just as it is and that it’s time to stop hiding and let it come out.

Sounds amazing, right? And maybe a little scary.

There is a lot of vulnerability in all of this. It can be absolutely terrifying to cut through all the noise of the world and get aligned with what is true for you, and then share it outwardly.

It also takes a lot of patience and empathy and iteration. You’ve gotta really want it, because you’ve gotta work to get it, and then continuously work at maintaining it and leveling it up.

But, if you can stomach the initiation into this new way of operating in the world, it doesn’t take long to experience the payoff, which comes in the form of actual miracles.

Relationships can heal. Careers can take off. Communities can transform. All because YOU decided to show up in a bold and powerful new way.

The change you are looking for is already in you, just waiting. True story.

When you are ready to step into your voice, whatever that means for you, I would be delighted to be your guide. I have moved all my coaching online and have a few open spots.

PS: You don’t have to have an exact goal in mind in order to reach out. Voice and communication work looks and feels different for everyone. I will work with you to untangle anything that needs to be untangled and lay out a plan.

Meanwhile, I’m sending you all the love in my heart as we individually and collectively make our way through these final weeks of 2020.
